The project, envisioned as an Aerotropolis Satellite City, is aimed at supporting Guwahati’s expanding urban and economic needs while creating a new planned growth centre beyond the existing city core. The approved funding will primarily support land acquisition and initial site development, providing the foundation for the project’s next phase.
The initiative is expected to strengthen urban infrastructure, connectivity, planned expansion and commercial development, while helping address the growing pressure on Guwahati’s existing urban areas. With large-scale development planned around the city’s future growth, the satellite city could also create new opportunities for businesses, investment and employment.
The ₹2,100-crore allocation marks a significant step towards reshaping Guwahati’s long-term urban landscape and strengthening its position as a key economic centre of Northeast India.
