The All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) has called for diversifying natural rubber sourcing across the country, highlighting the Northeast’s growing potential to become the second-largest production hub after Kerala.
With its favourable climate, land availability and expanding rubber cultivation, the region offers significant opportunities for strengthening India’s domestic rubber supply. However, unlocking this potential will require greater investment in processing facilities, connectivity, infrastructure, technology and support for rubber growers.
A stronger rubber industry in the Northeast could not only reduce regional dependence on traditional production centres but also create new opportunities for farmers, businesses and the wider rural economy.
