Meghalaya is set to strengthen the global market access of its micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the Reverse Buyer Seller Meet 2.0, bringing international buyers from 22 countries to the state. The event is scheduled to take place on October 8 and 9 in Shillong, providing local businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products and explore potential international partnerships.
The initiative is aimed at connecting Meghalaya-based enterprises directly with overseas buyers and creating new avenues for trade and exports. For MSMEs, such buyer-seller interactions can help businesses understand international market requirements, identify potential customers and explore opportunities to expand beyond domestic markets.
The participation of buyers from multiple countries is particularly significant for Meghalaya’s emerging MSME ecosystem. Local enterprises operating across sectors such as food processing, handicrafts, textiles, agriculture and other traditional and value-added products can use such platforms to gain greater exposure and establish commercial relationships with buyers from international markets.
The Reverse Buyer Seller Meet also reflects the growing emphasis on strengthening the export potential of businesses in the Northeast. By bringing international buyers closer to local producers and entrepreneurs, initiatives of this nature can help reduce market-access barriers and provide MSMEs with greater visibility outside the region.
For participating businesses, the event could potentially lead to new orders, distribution partnerships, export opportunities and long-term business relationships. It also gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to receive direct feedback from international buyers on product quality, packaging, pricing and market preferences.
The initiative comes at a time when MSMEs are increasingly being recognised as an important driver of regional economic growth, employment and entrepreneurship. Greater integration with international markets could help Meghalaya’s small businesses expand their customer base while encouraging improvements in production capacity and product competitiveness.
The two-day event in Shillong is therefore expected to serve as an important platform for connecting Meghalaya’s local enterprises with the global marketplace, while supporting the state’s broader ambitions to promote entrepreneurship, exports and sustainable business growth.
